Also, I'm revising my statement after listening to a bunch of stuff of Vinnie's lately.

The only snare sounds I don't like of his are the Karizma at MD and the Karizma boot. Maybe it's just micing as it sounds good on Document.

Also caught that Hudson sampler of the Gadd thing and HOLY CRAP; the drum and cymbal sound is absolutely unfreakin believable.

Derek, no I was outbid by one guy (only other bidder). It ended at $489... I was only willing to pay around $200 for it. If they don't pay up though, the seller will contact me.

Yeah, that new Gadd tribute DVD looks and sounds AMAZING so far!

Hey, does anyone still use those Zildjian Colaiuta signature sticks? Those were pretty good! I liked the Chambers ones too. I don't like the idea of a cymbal co making sticks though. Ok, new thread coming right up! [img]wink.gif[/img]

That Gretsch "Vinnie" Maple shell snare is the bomb!! When I went to see Vince record with Brian Bromberg a few weeks ago. I noticed he did the whole recording with that particular snare. Had a whole box full of snares that he had brought, but the Maple "signature" was the one he used. During the playback, the snare sounded phenominal. Vinnie said to me "yeah.... it's got that real "woody" sound huh??"

How could I not agree with him??

If you are refering to the natural maple VC snare, you are absolutely right... i own one of those and it really sounds sweet.
I put a yamaha 30 strand snare on it and it became even better.

Sorry for the delay! Yeah, one of my favorite Vinnie drum sounds too (though I'm biased!). The kit was a Precision Drum Company custom kit (Keller Maple shells) with diecast hoops, set-up pretty much like Gretsch. The toms sound really deep and full. 18x22" bass drum (8-ply), 9x10, 9x12" toms (6-ply); 14x14 and 16x16 floor toms (8-ply). Ayotte Woodhoop snare, 4x14", 10-ply maple shell with a natural maple gloss finish. The rest of the drums are finished (if anyone cares) in natural maple satin. Cymbals: The ride is a 22" K Custom Medium that I use for almost everything--that's the same ride he's using on the Bernie Williams HOB live DVD (I forced him at gunpoint to use it! [img]wink.gif[/img] ). 14" New Beats, (l to r behind kit) 16" Swish w/rivets, 17" A Custom crash, 6" A Custom splash, 8" extra-thin splash, 10" K splash, the ride, 13" K/Z's (x-hats) 16" K dark thin crash. Heads were all coated Ambassador top/clear bottom; clear Amb. on bass drum batter, and the front head was completely removed for this session... [img]graemlins/grrr.gif[/img]
